Gracelands : Folly

Gracelands presents an outdoor day-into-evening programme of screenings of artists’ film and video, readings, live performance and sculpture, including several new commissions. The main event takes place in an intimate festive atmosphere in an unspoilt field below the Mimetic House, Dromahair, Co. Leitrim on Saturday, September 26th. (see information document, below). All welcome, admission free.

This year Gracelands considers Folly; foolishness or acts of madness, ornamental buildings designed as conversation pieces or theatrical sketches and songs. In doing so, it looks at the norms of what may be regarded as ‘constructive’ or ‘useful’. All kinds of follies are presented as propositions and occupations designed to show up the destructive or stultifying effects of more conventional behaviours and to suggest that overreaching and the ethics of making unlikely things can have a rehabilitative effect.

Events begin at 3, with a boat trip from Parke’s Castle, Lough Gill during which Aurelien Froment will present a staged reading of a recently published interview between the artist and filmmaker Werner Herzog. Places for this are limited so please book early, details follow.
